August/September Knowledge is Infinite Issue Release
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

IT'S HERE! The August/September Knowledge is Infinite Issue has been released into the wild for your enjoyment! Read the entire issue online through our Web site: http://www.alivemagazine.org/issuu.php?objectid=11 or order a print copy from MagCloud : http://magcloud.com/browse/Issue/26349

As we move into August and the final weeks of summer approach, many of us are beginning to feel that old, familiar first-day-of-school anxiety. Fall is a time of change, and August is the month when we fight that change with all we’re worth. We need to squeeze one more lemon into the lemonade, take one more weekend trip to the cabin, read one more goofy romance novel at the beach and never, ever take off our sandals.

But though we might be dreading the day when our brains will have to re-activate, our pencils will have to be sharpened and those over-sized sunglasses will have to be put back in their case, the truth is, we’re all secretly looking forward to it a little bit too. Because as much as we may enjoy spending an entire night sprawled out on the couch with an extra large pizza and a full season of “The Office” on DVD, most of us enjoy learning and living and growing even more.

The wonderful young women and men who contributed to our newest issue prove that statement. They prove that life happens no matter how hard you want to fight it sometimes, that the best things often come out of the worst situations and that we are always learning whether we’re aware of it or not, in the classroom and out of it.

Our experiences are infinite, and the knowledge we can gain from those experiences is infinite too.

So order up a pizza, nestle down in your couch and spend a night enveloping yourself in the hula hoops, retirement homes and comedians of our newest issue…But we promise we won’t tell if you sneak in an episode too.

July Bounded Art
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” -Virginia Woolf

As Luciano Pavarotti so aptly put it, “one of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.” Life is hectic, life is fast-paced and life is often changing, but one thing will always remain constant amidst all the chaos: food. Whether you love to eat, love to cook, or just appreciate a good meal, we’d love to have your photos! So get out that recipe book and camera, forget about the heat for a while, and take a little time off to “dine well.”

As long as it doesn't denigrate another person and follows the theme of food, we'll put your pictures up in an album on our Facebook fanpage! Just send your picture to media@alivemagazine.org including your name and the reason why you chose the picture, then write "Bounded Art" in the subject line. Let’s see what you’ve got cookin’!

And don't forget to keep your eye out for the upcoming August/September Knowledge is Infinite Issue, due out August 3rd.

The Happiness Issue

Happiness is difficult to define. Is it a simple emotion, an exchange of chemicals in the brain? Or is it a state of being, a daily choice? Alive Magazine highlights happiness in the lives of its readers. Methods of finding and maintaining happiness are as diverse as Alive Magazine's readers. This issue explores the value of happiness and the way it touches lives. How do young women relate? What makes their eyes sparkle? What is beautiful to them? What makes them come alive?

March Bounded Art Theme: 5!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

This month's bounded-art theme is . . . 5! Spring 2009 marks Alive Magazine's fifth anniversary, so we want you to create art that somehow relates to 5. Interpret that as you will -- as long as it doesn't denigrate another person, we'll put it in our bounded art album. Any art you send us will also be considered for inclusion in the magazine! Send a hi-res picture of your art to media@alivemagazine.org.
